Feisty Blond Mary Dilda Spins Double Gold at Reno National Championship Air Races 2005

MEMPHIS, TN (September 15, 2005)  Mary Dilda once again assured her place in history by remaining the only woman to have ever won a Gold Race at Reno and set a new record by being the only female to have won twice in the T-6 class!  Since her first win in 1997, Ms. Dilda along with her highly acclaimed Two of Hearts Air Racing Team have had their hearts broken finishing in a close second for the past three years to the likes of Tom Campo’s “Mystical Power“, and All Goss’s “Warlock”.

Capitalizing on her experience, determination, sponsor-power, media draw and her team’s true grit, Mary Dilda put it all together with a commanding finish ¼ mile ahead after two laps against a backdrop of blue skies, light winds and a throng of hundreds of thousands enthusiastic fans eager to see a woman beat the men.  They were not disappointed!

Mary Dilda remains an icon for women in aviation yet remains down to earth, most approachable, a true inspiration to young people contemplating the aviation field.  As a career aviator with FedEx Express she balances time between international flying, air racing and airshow performances as “Mary Dilda Airshows” about 12 times per year.  Mary Dilda will never pass up an opportunity to stop, greet and spend time with a little girl to urge her to follow her dream of becoming a “girl aviator”.  It is a passion for Mary and one that tugs at heart strings young and old.

What’s next for Mary Dilda?  For the 2005 season there’s one more airshow in Pensacola, Florida, then the annual International Council of Airshows (ICAS) convention where Mary will build her 2006 schedule.  Mary is already plotting her strategy to hang onto her gold trophies.  That’s right, not only did she win the Gold Race but she still holds the fastest qualifying time of any T-6 at 239.398 and plans to keep it that way.  Look out boys!
